  1. Define and give examples of elements, compounds and mixtures.
  2. Classify matter into elements, compounds and mixtures.
  3. Represent elements, compounds and mixtures using a model
    or diagrams.

    What is an atom?

  1. Define and classify a molecule and an atom.
  2. Use and interpret atomic symbols, e.g. for C.
  3. Define proton/atomic numbers and nucleon/mass numbers.
  4. State the relative charges, and approximate relative masses of
    protons, neutrons and electrons.
  5. Deduce the numbers of protons, neutrons and electrons given
    the proton/atomic and nucleon/mass number.

    What are the properties of different substances?

  1. Classify elements into metals and non—metals based on
    physical properties.
  2. Deduce from the given melting and boiling points the identity of
    substances and their purity.
